Lobethal was established in 1842 by 18 German Lutheran families and their pastor - Pastor Fritzschke. For more information on the history of Lobethal try the link here.
This hop kiln was originally built in 1860 by August Muller on Neudorf Road. The original kiln burnt down in 1860, but was rebuilt in 1900 using the same blueprint as before.
The photo below, although not very clear shows the original hop kiln - the building on the right. It was rebuilt slightly to the west (left) of the original one. You can see the hops growing in the foreground. The road is now bitumen and i drive along it every day.
